LAXXMI BOMB TO GO FOR DIGITAL RELEASE

LAXXMI BOMB, We all are not unaware of the havoc which the Novel Coronavirus has wrecked globally. Many industries have faced setbacks that would take them the upcoming years to recover from. Among these sectors, one of the worst-hit sectors is the entertainment sector, especially, movie theatres. Although the latest MHA’s guidelines hints on resuming the activities gradually but it still remains skeptical about whether people will be flocking back to cineplexes.

Production houses that had already invested lump sums amounts in various movies as started have started taking a bailout by selling the streaming rights to OTT platforms owing to their growing popularity among the Indian audience. Earlier, we had seen the Late Irrfan Khan starrer, Angrezi Medium going for a digital premiere as its theatrical release was hampered by the imposition of nation-wide lockdown. Recently, Amitabh Bachmann and Ayushmann Khurana starrer Gulabo Sithabo also tied up with Amazon Prime for a digital release ahead of a theatrical release. Joining this list of movies, Laxxmi Bomb featuring Akshay Kumar has also gone ahead with a digital premiere.

According to reports, the movie will be available on Disney Hotstar exclusively. PinkVilla in a report quoted a source who was not named stating “It’s true that the film will now be premiering on Hot Star. Although there was a bit of disagreement initially, everyone is on the same page now. The movie will indeed be released online.” Further, the source clarified the reasons why there hasn’t been any official announcement yet “the team needs a month to prepare the project. A bit of post-production work remains and they are waiting for the lockdown to get over.

The producers have taken a joint decision on calling the most minimum number of people to get their film ready. So the film won’t hit the OTT platforms at least till a month after the lockdown is lifted. So the release date isn’t decided yet.” Adding to the numbers involved behind the deal with the production houses and the OTT platform, the source reported, “Usually digital rights of a big film get sold at record prices of Rs 60-70 crore max. But since this film won’t have a theatrical release and will be straightaway sold to digital, they have fetched a huge price.

Laxxmi Bomb has been sold for a staggering Rs 125 crore. But while the number is huge considering digital rates, what one must not forget is that it had the potential of earning over 200 crores at the box office, despite a clash with Salman Khan’s Radhe. So the total revenue that the team will make out of it, is much less.” Laxxmi bomb is a horror-comedy. It has Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani in the notable casts. The movie was originally scheduled to be released on Eid while clashing with Salman Khan’s Radhe.
