Britain’s Got Talent has broadcasted Black Lives Matter inspired dance performance by Diversity. The performance was shown on Britain’s Got Talent. It has received a number of complaints through broadcasting regulator Ofcom.
Ofcom had told the BBC that it had got more than a thousand complaints about the ITV show. These were ‘mostly regarding Diversity’.
Ashley Banjo, who is a judge in the absence of Simon Cowell, led the routine. This involved him being knelt on by a man who was dressed as a police officer. The act was in reference to George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis in May.
A spokesperson of Ofcom told BBC, “We are assessing the complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate.” The essence of the objections was not released.
After the performance, Banjo also tweeted to thank his fans for love and support.
During the act, Banjo lay on the ground while another dancer was outfitted as a police officer, cuffed him. Others surrounded them to take pictures.
There is a voice-over during the dance. It stated, “What we thought we knew, some clearly didn’t. Black Lives Matter.”
The Actors Got A Standing Ovation After the Performance
The actors then took a knee as the phrase ‘I can’t breathe’ from Dax’s ‘Black Lives Matter’ played in the background.
The judging panel gave the performance a standing ovation. Banjo then enlisted the judges.
Speaking about receiving the opportunity to be a judge, he said, “First and foremost, me joining the show this year is bittersweet because I feel like this year has been full of horrible news.”
“There are a few people over the course of Diversity’s career who have been integral and had a huge impact, and Simon’s one of those.”
“Walking on that stage as a 20-year-old street dancer from the streets of East London and now I am walking out there and stepping in for the big man. It feels really nice, almost poetic.”
