Fossil has come up with the latest update for its Gen 5 Wear OS smartwatches. The new update adds different interesting features to the smartwatches. These new features are not part of the standard Wear OS, which includes sleep and VO2 max tracking.
The bulk of new features that are added via the latest update are all for improvement. Fossil is adding improvements for activity tracking. It promises better real-time fitness tracking. For instance: heart rate, distance, steps, calories could be tracked. Fossil’s new update is promising this at half the power consumption by offloading these tasks from the main processor to the coprocessor. The co-processor is QCC1110. Fossil us adding another feature to Gen 5 Wear OS smartwatches, and that is sleep tracking. It was a missing feature till now, that was so prominent that the company even had an FAQ page for the same. It will also be having VO2 max tracking for calculating the cardio fitness level.
More Features To Follow Sleep Tracking
Fossil will be working on more. It is updating the battery saving mode. This will allow users to make custom profiles of specific tasks. And also, this will prompt them for “extended mode” to ensure a full 24 hours battery life per charge.
This enhancing of the battery mode setting is a key part of Fossil as it will be enabling sleep tracking.
Fossil is also adding an updated Phone app. This will be adding a new tile for quick access.
However, many of these features are already on watches from competitors like Apple or Fitbit. But the most notable part is, Fossil has itself added these features. Google has not encouraged updates.
Fossil’s update seems to be far more driving to its extent.
These new features will be rolling out on Gen 5 Wear OS smartwatches of Fossil.
