Kangana Ranaut who has called out Bollywood a number of times for its nepotism and blamed it for the suicide of Sushant Singh Rajput has named celebrities like Karan Johar, Mahesh Bhatt and Aditya Chopra in a recent interview with Republic TV. She called them out as “emotional vultures” who wanted to witness people lynch themselves. Kangana Ranaut has also claimed that if she isn’t able to prove her statements given in public, Kangana Ranaut will return her Padma Shri award.
On June 14, 2020, the entire was shook by the sudden demise of the young and budding talent, Sushant Singh Rajput. He had reportedly committed suicide at his apartment of Mumbai by hanging. Post his death, the debate over nepotism in Bollywood has fueled again and several of the fans of Sushant started trolling people like Karan Johar, Salman Khan, Aditya Chopra and many other actors and producers of Bollywood.
Kangana Ranaut, who has always spoken up against nepotism, has bashed the industry for providing unfair privileges to star kids and in a shocking revelation; Kangana Ranaut took a few names of people who wanted Sushant to be “doomed”. She has also raised a question on the Mumbai police as to why didn’t they summon filmmakers like Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra, Mahesh Bhatt and a film critic, Rajeev Masand. Kangana Ranaut brought allegations against Mahesh Bhatt for using Parveen Babi’s illness to sell his films and questioned the negligence meted out to Swara Bhaskar and Taapsee Pannu- the “needy outsiders” over Aliya Bhatt and Ananya Pandey. When questioned by the reporter as to why isn’t she giving these statements to the police, she said that her statements should be public so that there aren’t any factual twist later on.
Kangana Ranaut further stated that Sushant’s family shouldn’t be harassed now due to the power of a few. She also questioned the Mumbai Police for summoning Sanjay Leela Bhansali as he never did anything vengeful and Shekhar Kapur- a god-like figure in the industry. Kangana Ranaut has also revealed that Javed Akhtar had told her that she might have to end her life if she didn’t apologize to the powerful people like the Roshans.
Kangana has confirmed that she was summoned by the Mumbai Police when she was in Manali. As a result, it hasn’t been possible for them to record her statement but she claimed, “I am telling you, if I said anything, which I can’t testify, which I can’t prove, and which is not in the public domain, I will return my Padma Shri. I don’t deserve it. I am not that person who will go on record (to make such statements), and everything that I have said is in the public domain.”
Post Sushant’s demise, the netizens lashed out to several bigwigs of Bollywood calling them “products of nepotism”. The Mumbai Police is in charge of investigating the matter and has summoned people like Rhea Chakraborty, Shanoo Sharma, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and many more. Shekhar Kapur has reportedly sent his statement via email. Several people are demanding CBI investigation into the matter.
