watched Ramanand Sagar’s popular TV serial “Ramayan” which is re-airing on Doordarshan has broken all records. The government re-telecasted it on television from April 28 amidst lockdown enforced in the nation due to coronavirus outbreak. Now the show Ramayan has made a world record. It became the world’s most-watched show with 7.7 crore viewers on 16 April. DD India watched gave this information by posting it on its official Twitter handle on late Tuesday night.

For a long time people had demanded it to be re-aired. Considering these watched demands, the central government decided to re-broadcast the Ramayana in the lockdown period. People are enjoying mythological serials like Mahabharata, Ramayana with their families. Its scenes and episodes are discussed daily on social media. Children are sharing memes associated with their favourite dialogues. The replay of Ramayana has once again brought the main characters of the serial, Arun Govil, Deepika Chikhliya, Sunil Lehri, Arun Trivedi into the limelight. They are very excited by love, warmth and response from the people. It was viewed by 17 million people on the very first day it was aired on T.V.

Interestingly, even during its first telecast, this serial broke all records of popularity. Ramanand Sagar made a total of 78 episodes of Ramayana based on Ramayana of Maharishi Valmiki and Ramcharitmanas of Goswami Tulsidas under his direction. It was originally broadcasted in the country from January 25, 1987, to July 31, 1988. During this broadcast, it became the most-watched serial not only in India but in the whole world. As of June 2003, it was recorded in Limca Book of Records as the world’s most-watched mythological serial.
