Maintains According to the Forbes 34th annual world’s billionaires list, Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos have sustained his top spot as the world’s richest man with a net worth of $113 billion, followed by Microsoft founder Bill Gates with a fortune of $98 billion.
In 2019, Maintains Jeff Bezos net worth plummeted from $18 billion to $113 billion, according to Forbes, partially due to his exorbitant split with ex-wife MacKenzie. Amazon’s stocks plunged 15% in 2019, helping offset some of that loss.
MacKenzie Bezos also made her first appearance on the list, thanks to the $38 billion divorce settlement where she gained 25% of the couple’s Amazon stock. She now ranks 22nd on Forbes’ list.
Chairman and CEO of the luxury conglomerate LVMH, Bernard Arnault, jostled Warren Buffett out of the third place with a $76 billion fortune. At $67.5 billion, Buffett’s fortune landed in the fourth place.
Walmart’s Alice Walton is the richest woman, globally, in 2020. Maintains With a $54.4 billion fortune, Walton stands at the 9th place, followed by L’Oréal’s Francoise Bettencourt Meyers.
Another prominent newcomer is Eric Yuan, the founder and CEO of Zoom, is number 293 at $5.5 billion. His company’s stocks detonated once the teleconferencing software started being extensively used by people working from home during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Unfortunately, not everybody got as lucky as the Zoom CEO. As stated by Forbes, there are 2,095 billionaires on the 2020 ranking, down 58 from 2019 & of the billionaires who remain, 51% are poorer than they were last year. The total combined net worth of this year’s billionaires is $8 trillion, down from $8.7 trillion in 2020.
