The new lockdown, set to be in place until May 17, is fortunately not going to be as strict as previous iterations. With the populace going crazy with cabin fever, the government has divided the nation’s 720 districts into green, orange and red zones based on the risk of COVID-19 transmission. A district can only be considered a green zone if there is no reported case in three weeks.
Standalone neighborhood shops have been allowed to remain open throughout the country, but spas, salons, shopping complexes and malls are prohibited from opening.
While public transit vehicles have restrictions on maximum seating capacities in green and orange zones, they have been prohibited completely in red zones.
All educational, training, coaching, and hospitality institutes and services are to remain closed during the lockdown.
Cinema halls and gyms are also prohibited from opening.
Religious places and places of worship to remain shut to prevent mass gatherings.
Movements of all individuals is allowed only between 7 am and 7 pm. Post that, only holders of a special pass will be allowed to move around in public.
Sale of liquor and tobacco is to be resumed, but with social distancing in place, and public consumption is prohibited.
Weddings and funerals are allowed, but with social distancing protocols, and the maximum upper limit on attendees.
In green zones, all activities are allowed except for a particular list prohibited across the country.
Those that do not follow the police’s instructions with regards to the lockdown can be punished with a year-long stint in prison and/or a hefty fine.
