Success stories have always been popular, because they serve to inspire and motivate the audience, giving them a relatable character in the beginning who somehow goes against all odds and manages to climb to the top of the ladder. They can be cheesy and predictable, but there is an argument to be made that we need something to bring us out of our lockdown-induced lethargy and inspire us to be productive. So here are some inspiring rags to riches stories you should watch.
The Pursuit of Happyness
Will Smith plays Chris Gardner, an (eventual) single father bearing the brunt of his poor financial decision to buy portable bone density scanners in bulk, forcing him to go out on the road for hours every day in the hope of making a sale. Life throws all kinds of adversities at him, from his wife abandoning him to homelessness and hunger. But once he gets his hand on an opportunity to work at a stock trading firm, he grabs it with both hands. This movie is definitely one of the most inspiring ones on Prime Video.
Based loosely on the life of tycoon Dhirubhai Ambani stories, Guru follows the life of Gurukant Desai (played by Abhishek Bachchan), who sets up a successful business against all odds. His ambitions don’t end there, however, causing him to turn to illegal means to acquire as much wealth as he can, risking his relations with his nearest and dearest ones in the process. The gradual buildup of drama in this film makes it one of the better ones on Netflix.
Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year
Dunderheaded but honest Harpreet Singh Bedi (played by Ranbir Kapoor in one of his breakout performances) works at a computer company as a salesman, where he is forced to confront the dark and ugly side of the business. Instead of getting disenchanted, however, Bedi launches his own company, Rocket Sales Corp., within his present company and even starts competing with his present company. This is a heartfelt movie with plenty of comedy to keep you laughing as Harpreet wages war against everything he deems wrong.
